Altus Advantage has always offered eco-friendly containers, especially in our Zero Waste collection. Now we’re adding even more options for our customers to feel confident that the products they choose will not leave a negative impact on our environment. These will be available in our bath and body collections.

Glass Jars

We choose to package some of our products in glass jars. This option is non-toxic, contains no potentially harmful chemicals, and is generally not associated with adverse health effects.

Since it is less porous than plastic, it is highly resistant and won’t leach into your product; even when it is contained for long periods of time.

Glass is 100% recyclable which means it won’t break down and no loss of quality for either your product or the container will occur over time.

We use these eco-friendly containers for our laundry butter and solid dish soap

Once you’ve used all of your product and the jar is empty, re-use the jars for canning or other purposes.

In our Eco-Friendly Dish Soap article, we discuss just how easy it can be to reduce your household’s plastic use.

Compostable Plastic Bags

Our potty bombs, laundry capsules, and body scrub bars come in clear compostable plastic bags.

If you’re making your own compost at home, these bags may not break down as they require high temperatures. Generally, we recommend you send it to your town or city’s compost because their facilities are optimal to break down this type of cellulose-based plastic bag.

Made from plants, these new bags appear the same as a traditional Poly bag but they are sustainable and Earth-friendly.

Due to the compostable nature of the bags, Altus Advantage can only put dry products into them otherwise the bags will start breaking down.

This is the reason why we continue to find new eco-friendly containers. Depending on the product, we need to choose the most appropriate option for the product we are packaging.

Biodegradable Paper Jars And Tubes

We’re proud to finally introduce biodegradable compostable paper products for wet products that are not in glass jars.

Our body butter, bath salts, and cleansing balm currently come in plastic jars but, with this new option, you will be able to choose the size and which packaging you’d prefer when you order.

Some advantages of eco-friendly paper containers are that they are safe and durable, biodegradable, lightweight and easy to transport, safe for food and body products, and cost-effective.

A consideration of the paper jars and tubes is that because our products are oil-based, you may see oil spots on the outside of the container.

Also, since it is cardboard, touching it with wet hands will wet the packaging as well.

This doesn’t affect the quality of the product but we want you to be aware that it increases the possibility of changing the look of the packaging.

Conclusion

Although Altus Advantage is not 100% environmentally friendly yet,  we’re making every effort to get there as new options are available to us.

Not every company can adopt eco-friendly containers and packaging options because there are two shelf-lives to consider – the packaging and the product. This is more difficult for larger companies that have bigger inventory. It is an advantage to shopping small because we have the ability to produce in smaller batches.

If you have an eco-friendly product or container idea, we are willing to listen. Leave a comment on this post and our team will get back to you.
